Professor Carlos Antônio Leite Brandão, from the School of Architecture and former director of IEAT (management 2005-2009), is one of the winners of the first edition of the Jabuti Academic Award.

Promoted by the Brazilian Book Chamber (CBL), the award ceremony was held on August 6, at the Sérgio Cardoso Theater, in São Paulo. The Jabuti Academic Award is an offshoot of the traditional Jabuti Prize for literature. Divided into 29 categories, the Award received 1,953 entries in its first edition.

On the occasion, professor Fernanda Vieira Amorim da Costa, from the UFMG Veterinary School, was also awarded. Carlos Brandão was awarded in the Architecture, Urbanism, Design and Urban and Regional Planning category with his book Genealogia da Cidade, published by Editora UFMG. Fernanda Costa, in turn, won in the Veterinary Medicine, Zootechnics and Fisheries Resources category, with the book Manual of feline medical clinic, published by Editora Manole. The work is co-authored by Christine Martin, from the University of Brasília.

Innovative approach
Genealogy of the City is composed of two parts: the first explores how buildings and cities are essential instruments for the development of humanity, and the second focuses on the institution of the city, highlighting its diverse forms and meanings. Carlos Brandão analyzes the multiple dimensions that make up the city and celebrates the art of building as an essential element for bringing human beings together. On the Editora UFMG website, the work can be purchased for R$75.20. In January, the UFMG Portal published an article about the work.

Appropriate management
The Feline Medical Clinic Manual was designed to serve as an initial reference for clinicians looking for quality information consistent with the Brazilian reality on multiple aspects of the universe of feline medicine. The work highlights clinical signs and findings and describes in detail the main conduct and procedures related to the most appropriate management of the cat as a patient. The book can be purchased on the Editora Manole website for R$606.90.
