On August 7, 2026, the IEAT research group “Cosmópolis: meta-método” will host an afternoon of gatherings and debates at the UFMG School of Architecture, in partnership with the Laboratory of Urban and Metropolitan Studies (LabUrb) and the “Natureza Política” (Political Nature) research group. The event aims to foster reflection on collective practices, knowledge production, and ways to contest and build the city starting from the peripheries. Activities will take place in the entrance hall and at tables in Room 200.

The occasion will also mark the 50th anniversary of *Jornal dos Bairros* (Neighborhoods’ Newspaper), a pioneering grassroots activism initiative advocating for the “right to the city,” which circulated in the Barreiro and Contagem areas during the 1970s and 1980s. The event will feature the launch of the newspaper’s digitized archive, now freely available to the public.

The program includes:
Opening of the exhibition “Potências periféricas – memórias e arquivos do Jornal dos Bairros” (Peripheral Potentials – Memories and Archives of *Jornal dos Bairros*) (2:00 PM);
Roundtable discussion on the history and experience of *Jornal dos Bairros* (2:30 PM – 4:00 PM);
Roundtable and launch of publications regarding peripheries, collective action, and knowledge production, including the collections *Periferias em Debate: estratégias de reprodução social, conflitos e ação coletiva* (Peripheries in Debate: Social Reproduction Strategies, Conflicts, and Collective Action) and *Solidariedades urbanas e coproduções urbanas: universidades e associações em apoio às mobilizações populares, na França e no Brasil* (Urban Solidarities and Urban Co-productions: Universities and Associations Supporting Popular Mobilizations in France and Brazil) (4:30 PM – 6:00 PM).
