Tornou-se PhD em Neuroqu\u00edmica com uma tese sobre transfer\u00eancia de l\u00edpides inter-membrana, tamb\u00e9m em Leeds (tese premiada em 1974). Em 1976 mudou-se para o Instituto de Psiquiatria como professor de Bioqu\u00edmica. Os interesses de sua pesquisa foram a s\u00edntese da membrana, segundo mensageiro medi\u00e7\u00e3o e fun\u00e7\u00e3o, neurofarmacologia pr\u00e9-sin\u00e1ptico. Promovido a professor titular de Bioqu\u00edmica em 1984. Em 1992 come\u00e7ou a trabalhar na an\u00e1lise fractal de EEG e an\u00e1lise de MRI.
