The various forms of spatial mobility of the population, which include migration and commuting, have been repeatedly used as indicators of regional influence and interaction between and between cities, which allows identifying and analyzing the level of concentration\/dispersion of the population and the conformation of new centralities in the metropolitan space. In addition to being a result of the process of production\/social appropriation of space, these population flows can also induce changes in local and regional demographic dynamics.<\/p>\n
In recent decades, Belo Horizonte and the Metropolitan Region, as well as much of the country, given the progress of the demographic transition process, has experienced a significant growth of the elderly population, which poses a series of challenges and opportunities for territorial planning and management, including the challenge of ensuring mobility and access to transport systems for this age group. In this sense, this group has as its main objective the analysis of the level and conditions of access to the public transport system and the spatial mobility of the elderly population in Belo Horizonte and in the Metropolitan Region, as well as the search for more inclusive and democratic strategies to this right of access and mobility in urban space.<\/p>\n
