We do not understand the dynamics by which technological knowledge is elaborated and re-elaborated, and we do not understand how the visible face of technology\u2014the technological artifact\u2014can emerge from it. The belief that technology is merely a direct consequence of basic scientific knowledge is very present in both the popular imagination and philosophical literature.
