To this end, the following specific objectives will be addressed: to historically analyze the relationships between psychoanalysis, science, and medicine, with an emphasis on points of contact and rupture; to analyze the constituent aspects of the treatment demands directed at health professionals, with an emphasis on the role of subjectivity, and the responses formulated by both disciplines to these demands; to analyze and discuss the historical and epistemological aspects of the relationship between medicine and biomedical science and the effects of this relationship on contemporary subjects\u2014to the extent to which medical knowledge allows us to address all issues arising in clinical practice\u2014the undecidable, doubt, and that which escapes protocol; to analyze contemporary clinical practice based on the impasses encountered in current clinical practice; to analyze the physician’s position in the face of the demands for productivity and effectiveness proposed by capital; to analyze the training of physicians today in light of the changes that have occurred in medical practice over the last 30 years; and to analyze the physician’s subjective position in the face of the primacy of science and the primacy of practice. In this sense, how can we understand what the physician brings of themselves to their practice? Is it necessary to bring something of themselves to the practice of medicine? How can this happen? What is the physician’s position in the face of the demands of the medical and pharmaceutical industries? Is the physician subjected to, trapped by, capital and science (question 5 of Lacan’s Radiophony)? Can we speak of the existence of a “Discontents” in contemporary medical practice? How can we verify and understand its presence?
