**Destruction: Box V: Water: Scenes from Floods
the theme of nature as a source of tragedy appears to question the solidity of the city and of architecture, one of The Collector's favorite issues. "The collection assembles the history of the house, contaminated with destruction and subtraction; it classifies threats, bringing out their exposure and fragility", in the collector's words.

In response to the compulsivity of imaging in the media, The Collector, with its suggestively political thematic groupings, does not provide the passivity of traditional archives we have all seen-it is rather a testimony of the instrumentalization of these images for instant consumption-images that can become effective only through equally compulsive accumulation. As suggested in French philosopher Jacques Derrida's lecture titled Mal d'Archive (Archive Fever, 1994), we find "absolute impatience in relation to a desire for memory."
