Presentation
The International Conference Forever Poe is being promoted by the Graduate Program in Literary Studies of the Faculty of Letters UFMG, Brazil, and Purdue University, USA, to celebrate Edgar Allan Poe in the year of the bicentennial of his birth. The conference will take place at the building of the Faculty of Letters UFMG, located in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The daily program will consist of a series of activities: lectures and paper presentations (in the morning); paper presentations and panels (in the afternoon); films based on Poe’s writings, followed by discussions (in the evening).
Forever Poe aims to promote a discussion Poe’s entire oeuvre and encourages contributions from all the Americas. The title of the conference is a reference to one of Poe’s best known poems, “The Raven”, where the expression “Nevermore” is repeated by the bird at the end of most stanzas, thus conferring a new significance on them. The title of the conference then celebrates Poe by reversing the meaning of the raven’s words, as Forever Poe points toward the immortality of his literary production.
