• In 2024, UFMG was recognized by the National Institute for Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep), under the Ministry of Education, as the second-best Federal University (UF) in Brazil according to the General Course Index (IGC). In 2022 and 2023, the university was ranked as the best Federal University in the country.

• The four-year evaluation of graduate programs, conducted in 2022 by Capes (Ministry of Education), revealed that 44.4% of UFMG’s master’s and doctoral programs received grades 6 and 7, nearly three times higher than the national average of 15%. When considering programs rated 5, 68% of UFMG’s graduate programs are classified as excellent.

• The QS by Subject Ranking (2025 edition) highlights that 63% of UFMG’s fields of knowledge are indexed among the best in the world. Three disciplines—Dentistry, Mining Engineering, and Veterinary Medicine—were ranked among the top 100 globally, while Nursing, Philosophy, and Sociology were listed among the top 200.

• In the 2023 Folha University Ranking (RUF), UFMG was ranked as the second-best university in the “Market” dimension, which reflects employers’ perception of the quality of graduates. For the third consecutive time, UFMG was ranked among the top five universities in Brazil in the overall classification, securing the third position among federal universities.

• Additionally, in 2023, 64 UFMG researchers were listed among the most influential scientists in the world in a ranking produced by Stanford University (USA), based on Scopus database (Elsevier). UFMG was the top-ranked federal university and fourth among all Brazilian higher education institutions (HEIs) in this ranking, trailing only São Paulo’s state universities.

• In the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities (2025 first edition), which measures the impact of higher education institutions on the web, UFMG ranked third in Brazil and fourth in Latin America. This ranking is produced twice a year by the Cybermetrics Lab, linked to the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).

• THE Impact Rankings 2025: ranked 301-400, recognizing UFMG’s contributions to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Regarding specific SDGs, UFMG was ranked the best university in Brazil for its contributions to SDG 2 (“Zero Hunger”), based on indicators of research, teaching, and community outreach.
