About UFMG

Founded in 1927, the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) is one of the main institutions of higher education in the Brazil. Its highly qualified faculty, its competent technical and administrative personnel, the quality of its students, and the diversity of fields covered in the institution are all decisive contributors to the excellence of UFMG’s performance in teaching, research and extension.

As a part of the Federal System of Higher Education, UFMG is fully aware of the importance of scientific, technological, cultural and artistic development, as well as of the training of human resources committed to the making of a nation with more justice, plurality, and inclusion.

This University has been traditionally in charge of training major national leaders in various fields. Its work has been marked by a clear commitment to academic relevance and at the same time to social responsiveness.

As a solidly established institution, UFMG is ever more present in the international scene as a result of the constant and proficuous exchange of both professors and students, of its diverse academic programs, and of its committed research groups.

About Belo Horizonte

Belo Horizonte is the capital city of the State of Minas Gerais and the fifth largest city in Brazil. Located in the southeast region of Brazil, it is situated in the central area of the state of Minas Gerais, a strategic point of both Brazil and of the Americas. Belo Horizonte is surrounded by the mountains of the “Serra do Curral”, which render the city both its outstanding natural landscape and a meaningful role in local history. Besides its natural gifts and convenient road and air traffic access, the capital of the State of Minas Gerais is a landmark of architectural beauty and a city with outstanding vocation for business, services, and for a remarkable cultural and artistic production.

The pleasant weather, the beautiful scenery, the eclectic architecture and the convenient distance from important historical towns in the state of Minas Gerais – such as Ouro Preto, Mariana, Sabará, Congonhas, and Caeté – are additions to the array of offerings to the visitor and give him/her an idea of how rich his/her visit can be. The city is also considered the Brazilian town with the highest number of bars and pubs per inhabitant, so “Belô”, as Belo Horizonte is affectionately called, offers a richly diverse nightlife ranging from the dance club scene to international-standard gastronomy.

Two airports serve Belo Horizonte:

  • The Tancredo Neves International Airport, in Confins, 30km away from the event venue; and
  • The Pampulha Airport, in Belo Horizonte, 1km away from the event venue.
