In addition to conventional forms of admission, which are valid for both national and foreign students, UFMG receives foreign students in Mobility Programs and Cooperation Agreements. In these programs students can spend up to two academic semesters at UFMG. UFMG issues performance certificates in the disciplines taken during the exchange but the titles are awarded solely by the student’s institution of origin. Undergraduate and graduate students regularly enrolled in a foreign higher education institution, with which UFMG maintains academic cooperation, can participate in the exchange programs. UFMG does not require proof of proficiency in Portuguese from applicants for exchange programs, however some basic level of understanding is recommended, since Portuguese is the official language of instruction at UFMG. All foreign students at the UFMG are welcome to take courses of  Portuguese as a second language (PLA).
