In the last week of May, Patrícia Kauark, Director of IEAT/UFMG, visited the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS) at Aarhus University in Denmark. The visit aimed to strengthen ties between the two institutes and explore opportunities for international collaboration.

During the visit, presentations, meetings with researchers, and discussions with technical staff were held to address strategic topics of mutual interest and to explore future joint initiatives between AIAS and IEAT.

Among the topics discussed with AIAS researchers were artificial intelligence, digital sovereignty, and the challenges facing countries in the Global South. These conversations included Christian Ulrik Andersen (Department of Media Studies, Aarhus University), Rachel Charlotte Schmidt (Department of Digital Design, Aarhus University), and Gertraud Koch, a visiting fellow at AIAS.

The visit also featured interdisciplinary discussions on biomedicine and dentistry with Samia Joca (Department of Biomedicine, Aarhus University) and Bruna N. de Freitas, an AIAS fellow. In addition, the program included discussions on Indigenous and Afro-diasporic knowledge systems as forms of transepistemic science, with the participation of Janne Flora from the Department of Anthropology at Aarhus University.

The meeting between representatives of IEAT and AIAS took place within the framework of the University-Based Institutes for Advanced Studies (UBIAS) network, which brings together more than 40 institutes for advanced studies from universities around the world. Both AIAS and IEAT are members of this international network.

The visit reinforces IEAT/UFMG’s commitment to the internationalization of research and to building global networks for scientific collaboration dedicated to the production of advanced, transdisciplinary knowledge.
