The Institute for Advanced Transdisciplinary Studies (IEAT) at UFMG expresses its profound sorrow over the passing of French philosopher and sociologist Edgar Morin, who died on Friday, May 29, at the age of 104.

Widely recognized as one of the most influential thinkers of the modern era, Edgar Morin made groundbreaking contributions to our understanding of the challenges facing the contemporary world, most notably through the development of Complexity Theory, whose principles have been applied across fields such as education, public health, the social sciences, and environmental studies.

His work also played a pivotal role in establishing transdisciplinarity as an epistemological framework. By advocating for the reconnection of knowledge and the overcoming of disciplinary fragmentation, Morin proposed new ways of understanding reality in all its multidimensional complexity, integrating forms of knowledge, individuals, environments, and contexts that had long been treated as separate.
