Dr. Vinicius Mariano de Carvalho is a Lecturer in Brazilian Studies at Brazil Institute, King’s College London and Honorary Associate Professor for Brazilian Studies at Aarhus University, where he was previously professor and coordinator of the Brazilian Studies Programme. He holds a PhD in Romance Literatures by Passau University, Germany, an MA in Religious Studies and a BA in Literary Studies, both by Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora, Brazil. Parallel to his academic carrier he is also musician and researcher in musicology. Currently he conducts the Brazil Ensemble at King’s College London.

Dr. Carvalho research focuses on the fields of Brazilian literature and ethics (he is currently editing a volume on this subject with Routledge), literature and religion, Brazilian music, music and holocaust, as well as in defence and security issues. His main concern is how to solidify Brazilian Studies as a field of research and in this area he is a very active scholar in Europe. He is the founder and chief-editor of Brasiliana – Journal for Brazilian Studies.
