The Institute for Advanced Transdisciplinary Studies (IEAT) at UFMG has just released the e-book “Challenges of Knowledge in Transforming a Better World,” published by Editora UFMG. Organized by Aretusa Kelly Alves Duarte, Francisco César de Sá Barreto, Estevam Barbosa de Las Casas, and Patrícia Franca-Huchet , the work brings together articles derived from a transdisciplinary course offered by IEAT in 2021 to undergraduate and graduate students at UFMG.
The course featured the participation of experts from UFMG and guests from various fields of knowledge, and it sparked great interest among the students, leading some of the lectures and classes to be transformed into the articles that make up the book. With 225 pages, the publication is part of the IEAT collection and is available free of charge in the Editora UFMG (UFMG Press) catalog.
The book is organized into four sections: City and Politics; Sustainability; Human Sciences; and Work and Technologies. As a unifying concept for the publication, the organizers adopt the Anthropocene , based on a reflection on the relationship between humanity, knowledge, and the challenges for the planet’s future.
The articles address themes related to the contemporary challenges of knowledge production and circulation, with emphasis on urban and political issues, sustainability and the environment, social inequalities, education, humanities, culture, work, and technological transformations. The collection also discusses emerging themes such as artificial intelligence, the future of work, transdisciplinarity , decolonization of thought, political representation, and the impacts of environmental transformations, articulating different areas of knowledge in reflecting on the challenges of the present and the possibilities of building a more sustainable and socially just future.
