The Institute for Advanced Transdisciplinary Studies at UFMG (Federal University of Minas Gerais) is hosting, until mid-April, members of the technical staff from two leading European institutes for advanced studies.

Lena Bering, from the Institute for Advanced Studies in Aarhus, Denmark, and Mihaela Mihaylova, from the Institute for Advanced Studies (Zukunftskolleg – ZUKO) at the University of Konstanz, Germany, are already in Belo Horizonte and have met at the IEAT/UFMG headquarters to begin their activities at the university.

In a welcome meeting held at the IEAT headquarters on March 18, the guests were able to learn about the institute’s main programs and initiatives through a presentation led by the IEAT director, Patrícia Kauark. They also exchanged experiences regarding initiatives that support inter- and transdisciplinary research carried out at UFMG with other members of the institute’s technical-administrative team.

Throughout their stay at IEAT, the guests will take part in an immersion program, which includes participation in seminars, conferences, and presentations of research projects by the institute’s residents, as well as work meetings and a Portuguese language course for foreigners, offered in partnership with the UFMG Office of International Affairs.

The visit to IEAT is part of an important initiative of the UBIAS (University-Based Institutes for Advanced Study) network, aimed at expanding cooperation, training, and the exchange of experiences among the teams of institutes for advanced studies within the network. Since the beginning of this collaboration, six personnel exchange visits have already been carried out among institutes for advanced studies (IAS) from Brazil, France, Germany, Denmark, and Ireland, promoting the exchange of professional experiences and the intercultural enrichment of the participants.
