The deadline for submitting articles for the thematic dossier “Facing Latin America’s Crises: Contemporary Trends, Alternative Experiences, and Emerging Approaches” of the UFMG Journal has been extended to September 30, 2025.
This call is inspired by the experiences and debates promoted over the six years of the CALAS-IEAT/UFMG Chair program, an initiative of the Institute for Advanced Transdisciplinary Studies at UFMG (IEAT/UFMG) in partnership with the Maria Sibylla Merian Center for Advanced Latin American Studies (CALAS) in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Papers are accepted that address crises and social transformations in Latin America, addressing questions that seek to discuss how crises provoke, make visible, or are symptoms of profound social change, or how social change induced by crises is perceived and reflected upon by various social actors in different fields, including politics, economics, territory, culture, and social movements.
Submissions and Criteria
Academic and research papers in all areas of knowledge may be submitted in Portuguese, Spanish, or English, based on empirical or theoretical research, or a systematic and integrative critical review of scientific and academic production in the field. For this call, only scientific articles will be accepted. Preference is given to papers with an interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary approach.
The following are eligible to participate:
- PhD researchers;
- Postgraduate students, preferably in co-authorship;
- Undergraduate students, exclusively in co-authorship with researchers and advisors.
Submissions must follow the UFMG Journal guidelines, available on the UFMG website. UFMG Magazine through the Periodicals Portal.

- Call Launch: May 28, 2025
- New Submission Deadline: September 30, 2025
- Publication of Dossier: Continuous flow until December 2025
