The Institute of Advanced Transdisciplinary Studies of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (IEAT/UFMG) and the Maria Sibylla Merian Center for Advanced Latin American Studies (CALAS) invite researchers to submit contributions to the thematic dossier “Facing the crises in Latin America: contemporary trends, alternative experiences and emerging approaches”. The selected works will be published in the next issue of the UFMG Journal.

The dossier is inspired by the experiences and debates promoted over the six years of the CALAS-IEAT/UFMG Chair program. Coordinated by IEAT and sponsored by CALAS, the program brought together specialists in Latin American studies interested in researching experiences of crises in the region and exploring possible ways to overcome them. The topics addressed included peace and violence, social inequality, environmental crises, the crisis of democracy in times of polarization and other tensions of identities in plural societies.

The call seeks to bring together works that address diverse themes and issues involving how crises provoke, make visible or are symptoms of profound social changes in the region, but also how the social change induced by crises is perceived and reflected by various social actors in different fields, from politics, economy, territory, culture, and social movements in Latin America and the Caribbean.
