Belo Horizonte’s has a latitude of 19’55” in the South tropical zone. The event will occur at the end of fall and the beginning of the winter, and the temperature average between 9 and 30 o C (48 and 86 o F). Belo Horizonte takes place inside the Brazilian Cerrado area, one of the most diversities on fauna and flora of the country. Surrounded by mountains and located about 500 kilometers (310 m) from the sea, the weather is dry/mild in winter.

TRANSPORTATION

Belo Horizonte Tancredo Neves International Airport (CNF), commonly called Confins International Airport, is the main international airport serving Belo Horizonte and its etropolitan area in Brazil. It is one of the two transport hubs of Minas Gerais state along with the comestic Pampulha Airport. To go from Confins to downtown there are the following means of transport available:

1) Bus – Executive (R$37,00; US$6) and conventional or public transport bus lines 5250, 5251, 5270, 5252, and 5271 to reach the city center, with a bus stop at UFMG (R$19,70-22,50; US$3-5).

2) Taxi – Taxi ranks are located outside the ground level of the airport terminal. Make sure you ride a licensed taxi since unlicensed taxi scams are likely to happen. (R$ 90- 107; US$17-20)

3) Transfer – The Airport offers a Transfer at Belo Horizonte Airport

5) Rent a car – At the terminal four rental car companies are available.

VISA INFORMATION

Brazil has signed visa exemption agreements with about 90 countries. Participants should check with their local travel agents whether they will require a visa for traveling to Brazil. It is recommended to apply well in advance of the conference.

The Brazilian currency is the Real. Major credit cards are widely accepted in Brazil. In Belo Horizonte there are exchange houses of the main foreign currencies.
