Currently, the following courses are offered every semester, each with a workload of 60 hours (4 credits):
Link: - Português Língua Adicional – Básico (UNI 045)
Link: - Português Língua Adicional - Intermediário (UNI 046)
Link: - Português Língua Adicional – Intermediário Superior (UNI 137)
Link: - Português Língua Adicional – Avançado (UNI 138)
Intensive Holiday courses
The Language Proficiency Department of the International Affairs Office offers intensive holiday courses in Portuguese as an Additional Language (PLA) at the Elementary level (A1). These courses are aimed at international students in academic mobility at UFMG who have little to no prior knowledge of the Portuguese language.
The course aims to provide participants with an introduction to Portuguese, focusing on basic communication and comprehension skills, creating a solid foundation for continued language learning. The course takes place during the academic break and offers an opportunity for those who wish to start their Portuguese studies or improve their communication skills in a short period of time.
Online synchronous courses
The Office of International Affairs, in partnership with the Faculty of Letters, offers Portuguese as an Additional Language courses in a synchronous online format. These courses are intended for students from UFMG's partner institutions who are outside Brazil and can range from elementary to intermediate levels. Calls for these courses are sent to partner institutions when the registration period is open.
English for Academic Purposes
The English for Academic Purposes (IFA) courses have been offered at UFMG by the Faculty of Letters in partnership with the Office of International Affairs since 2012, initially as an extension course, and formalized by PROGRAD in 2013 as free elective courses (UNI040, UNI041, UNI042, UNI043, and UNI044). These courses are offered from the intermediate (B1) to advanced (C1) levels of English proficiency and target undergraduate and graduate students who wish to enhance their academic English skills for international mobility or for use in various academic contexts, such as conference presentations and writing scientific articles. These courses are semester-based and have a workload of 60 contact hours (4 credits).
