Date: April 27th to 29th, 2011
Location: Sônia Viegas Auditorium of the Faculty of Philosophy and Human Sciences of UFMG

“The Colloquium aimed to create a space for interdisciplinary reflection on the development and applications of new biotechnologies, especially those linked to genetics and molecular biology. Two groups of questions circumscribed the activities: the question of technical and normative rationality, leading to both the approximation and demarcation of technology in relation to other fields of human cognition and action, such as science, philosophy, empirical knowledge, morality and right; the issue of regulating biotechnology, focusing on ethical, political and legal aspects. To this end, the anthropological implications were considered, covering the different aspects of the re-engineering of the human being (body and mind), as well as the controversies related to the need to control technological processes and systems.”
