The Institute for Advanced Transdisciplinary Studies (IEAT) at UFMG will hold the IEAT 2024 Annual Seminar on the 10th, 11th and 12th of December, as part of the celebrations of the institute’s 25th anniversary. With the theme Paving the Future, the event will take place in auditoriums 1 and 4 of the Faculty of Economic Sciences (FACE) at UFMG. Over the three days of the seminar, the program will feature a large conference, round tables, book launches and an exhibition of resident professors and IEAT research groups. The complete schedule can be acessed here.
Registration must be made through the UFMG Event Management System. Registrants who sign the attendance list on the day of the event will receive a certificate.
On December 10th, in auditorium 1 of FACE, at 10 am, the opening session of the seminar will take place, with the participation of the Pro-Rector of Research at UFMG Fernando Marcos dos Reis and the director of IEAT, professor Patrícia Kauark. Soon after, Professor Marcello Musto, from York University, will give a Grand Conference on War and the Left. Professor Juarez Guimarães, from the Faculty of Philosophy and Human Sciences, will mediate.
Marcello Musto explains that the left has a long and rich tradition of opposition to militarism, dating back to the First International. Socialist theory offers a unique contribution by highlighting the relationship between war and the development of capitalism, serving as an excellent resource for understanding the origins of war conflicts in contemporary society and strengthening opposition to war.
At the conference, Marcello Musto will examine the positions on the war of the main leftist currents – including socialists, social democrats, communists, anarchists and feminists, as well as its most important intellectuals and political leaders, such as Robespierre, Engels, Kropotkin, Jaurès, Lenin, Luxemburg, Mao and Khrushchev. It will also address the different formulations of these authors, such as “defense war”, “just war” and “revolutionary war”.
On the same day, at 2 pm, the round table Paving Transdisciplinarity will be held at UFMG. Participating in this session are former IEAT directors Alfredo Gontijo, from the Institute of Exact Sciences, Carlos Antônio Leite Brandão, from the School of Architecture, and Estevam Las Casas, from the School of Engineering. Aretusa Duarte, head of the IEAT Administrative Secretariat, will mediate the panel.
Then, at 4 pm, the launch of books on research carried out at IEAT will be held. Professor Allan Claudius Queiroz Barbosa, from the Faculty of Economic Sciences, will present the book Health Assessment in the Transdisciplinary Perspective, launched this year in the IEAT Collection of the UFMG Publisher. Next, Sérgio Cirino, from the Faculty of Philosophy and Human Sciences, Simone Dutra Lucas, from the Faculty of Dentistry, and Tatiana Queiroz, from the IEAT Administrative Secretariat, will talk about the book UFMG Pesquisa Egressos – Volume 2, launched by Editora Dialética.
