The Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) will host the 1st Seminar on Integration of the Chairs of Basic Education of the Institutes of Advanced Studies of UFMG, UFRJ and USP on April 4, 2025. The event will be held in the auditorium of the UFMG Rectorate, from 9 am to 5 pm.

The event is open to undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, professors, basic education teachers and others interested in the topic. To participate, it is necessary to register using the electronic form. Certificates of participation will be issued.

The event is promoted by the FUNDEP Magda Soares Chair of Basic Education at the Institute of Advanced Transdisciplinary Studies (IEAT) at UFMG, in partnership with the Alfredo Bosi Chair of Basic Education at the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of São Paulo (IEA/USP), the Anísio Teixeira Chair of Teacher Training at the Brazilian College of Advanced Studies at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (CBAE-UFRJ) and the UFRJ Teacher Training Complex.

The seminar aims to bring together and coordinate research and investigation work on basic education and teacher training within the scope of the Basic Education Chairs of the Institutes of Advanced Studies of the three universities.

The opening session of the event will be at 9:00 a.m. Following this, at 10:00 a.m., there will be a roundtable discussion on Partnerships between universities and schools in the training of basic education teachers. The objective is to theoretically deepen discussions on the collaboration between universities and schools in the training of basic education teachers, highlighting the importance of coordinated work between various institutional agents and professionals who work in various spheres of education.

The roundtable will feature two lectures given by professors António Nóvoa, holder of the FUNDEP Magda Soares Chair in Basic Education at IEAT/UFMG, and Bernardete Gatti, holder of the Alfredo Bosi Chair in Basic Education at IEA/USP. After the conferences, there will be a debate coordinated by Professor Maria José Flores, Deputy Pro-Rector of Undergraduate Studies at UFMG, and by Elton Martins Pimenta Silvério, professor at Escola Estadual Madre Carmelita, both members of the Management Committee of the FUNDEP Magda Soares Chair of Basic Education at IEAT/UFMG.

In the afternoon, there will be a discussion group on Partnerships between universities and schools in the training of basic education teachers, with the aim of expanding, in a more open manner, the debates initiated at the round table held in the morning. In addition to the members of the round table, Giseli Barreto da Cruz, coordinator of the Anísio Teixeira Chair of Teacher Training at CEBAE-UFRJ and the UFRJ Teacher Training Complex, and Luís Carlos de Menezes, pedagogical coordinator of the Alfredo Bosi Chair of Basic Education at IEA/USP, will participate in the discussion group.

Basic Education Chairs

The Basic Education Chairs of the Institutes of Advanced Studies at UFMG, UFRJ and USP have been dedicated to research and development of projects on basic education and teacher training, with a theoretical and practical approach. The actions aim to directly impact students, teachers, school administrators and public education policies, promoting collective work. This effort involves universities through teaching, research and extension programs and undergraduate courses, as well as state and municipal education councils and departments, schools, school administrators, teachers and other members of the school community.
