Wagner Meira: We have observed a variety of strategies for producing and distributing information and knowledge, which have a direct impact on the reach and effective use of the knowledge generated. In this lecture, we will contrast models based on exclusion and models based on sharing and instantiate them in the context of software and digital assets.
Ruben Dario: The concept of intellectual property, IP, relates to intangible or immaterial assets, or all creations of the intellect, encompassing human capital, organizational capital, know-how, patents, trademarks, geographical indications, copyrights, traditional knowledge, etc. Thus, we will address the historical aspect of inventions, their legal framework, the difference between discovery and invention, the need for knowledge protection at an institution like UFMG, and some reflections on the balance between protection and scientific dissemination.
