The opening section of article 19 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights says that “everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression”. However, is the right to freedom of expression in the most diverse contexts really guaranteed, in these complex times for Brazilian democracy?

The event aims to discuss freedom of expression in three specific fields: artistic, press and academic freedom. This discussion, in a period of uncertainty and attacks on rights won over decades, becomes necessary to seek ways to advance in the construction of a more open and democratic society.
