Invitation to launch the book Health assessment from a transdisciplinary perspective (Disclosure Editora UFMG)
On September 14, 2024, Editora UFMG will promote the launch of the book Health assessment from a transdisciplinary perspective, organized by Allan Claudius Queiroz Barbosa, professor at the Faculty of Economic Sciences at UFMG. The event will take place from 11am to 2pm, at Livraria da Rua, located at Rua Antônio de Albuquerque, 913, in the Negócios neighborhood, and promises to bring together an audience interested in in-depth discussions about the challenges of health assessment in Brazil.
A transdisciplinary and evolutionary approach
The work is part of the collection of the Institute for Advanced Transdisciplinary Studies (IEAT) at UFMG, reinforcing the university’s commitment to promoting academic discussions of high relevance and social impact. The publication also has the support of the Fundação Hospitalar São Francisco de Assis, expanding the scope of the reflections presented in the book. Allan Claudius, organizer of the book, highlights that “evaluation, due to its complexity and multi-determination, suggests not a single approach path, but a myriad of them capable of responding to specificities and suggesting points that constitute a framework of common references for a more authoritative analysis of health.”
The synopsis of the work highlights the diversity of perspectives that range from a global perspective to local aspects, approaching the treatment of evaluation from different perspectives, whether behavioral, instrumental or at multiple levels of attention. This multidisciplinary work reflects the vocation of a production in constant evolution.
Connections between inequalities and health policy evaluation
Luiz Augusto Facchini, author of the book and full professor at the Federal University of Pelotas, as well as coordinator of the Primary Health Care Research Network – ABRASCO/OPA, praises the work for identifying multiple connections between categories and dimensions of analysis that explain the challenges of evaluation in a country marked by great inequalities. For Facchini, “the common point between the different conceptions and approaches is the assessment of compliance with objectives, goals and duties established in institutional rules and guidelines, with the purpose of supporting the formulation and correcting the trajectory of health policies and actions” ,
Facchini also highlights that the book addresses inequities and differences in Brazilian health, accentuated by the crisis experienced by the SUS in the last seven years, and how these issues impact the population’s access to health in different spheres.
The relevance of the work for academic and professional audiences
“This book is of great importance for undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, professionals and managers involved in expanding and strengthening health assessment”, stated Facchini. The work promises to be essential reading for those seeking to understand and face the challenges of evaluating health policies in the Brazilian context, especially at a time of great challenges for the SUS.
The launch of the book Health assessment from a transdisciplinary perspective is an unmissable opportunity for anyone who wants to deepen their knowledge about the complexity of health evaluation and the multiple approaches that can contribute to the improvement of public policies in Brazil.
The research that gave rise to the book Health assessment from a transdisciplinary perspective was produced by the Research Group Health Assessment in the Transdisciplinary Perspective – A Proposal of the Observatory of Human Resources in Health of the Faculty of Economic Sciences of UFMG, together with the Institute of Advanced Transdisciplinary Studies (IEAT), through the IEAT Research Groups program.
