City and Nature Subject will bring together teachers from different areas of knowledge

The Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFJR) and the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), through their Institutes and Centers for Advanced Studies, will offer, in the second half of 2024, the subject City and Nature.
According to the course syllabus, the course intends to discuss the city in its relations with nature, culture, politics, emphasizing its processes of production, reproduction and appropriation. Topics such as emancipatory movements, political struggles, planning and public policies, contemporary challenges and urgencies will also be debated, as well as the paths towards the utopia of building fair cities that are amalgamated with nature. Undergraduate and postgraduate students from the three institutions can take the subject.
Nature and cities:
Offered by UFMG, the course will take place from October 14, 2024 to February 3, 2025, with a workload of 45 hours and 3 credits. For postgraduate students, the subject will be offered in the following postgraduate programs: Geography, code DIPGEO 848 Class C, in Architecture and Urbanism, code ARQ821/ARQ822 Classes U3 and in Philosophy, code FIL793 R. Undergraduate students may enroll in the third phase of enrollment through the Undergraduate Academic System (Siga), through the code UNI196, in the subject Topics in Transdisciplinary Studies: City and Nature. Classes are scheduled for Mondays, being taught via Google Meets or Zoom Meetings. The full menu can be accessed here.
About the postgraduate enrollment procedure
The registration calendar and instructions are available on the websites of the UFMG Postgraduate Programs where the subjects are being offered. The registration procedure must be done in the Minha UFMG system, Postgraduate Enrollment field. For students in other Postgraduate Programs, enrollment can be done as an elective course. In courses where registration has already ended, registration adjustments may be requested through the Postgraduate Program Secretariats.
