The deadline for applications for the 5th edition of the Intercontinental Academia (ICA), which will focus on “Pluralities of Resonant Relationships,” has been extended until September 30, 2025.
Distinguished young researchers, up to 15 years after obtaining their doctorate, from various fields of knowledge, are eligible to apply. Those selected will participate in an international and interdisciplinary academic immersion through two workshops, to be held in Erfurt, Germany (June and July 2026), and in Belo Horizonte (March 2027).
Pluralities of Resonant Relations
The theme of ICA5 addresses the concept of “Pluralities of Resonant Relations,” based on the sociological theory of world relations developed by Hartmut Rosa, one of today’s most influential social theorists. The initiative aims to analyze and understand, from the perspective of different disciplines, how individuals create meaningful and resonant relationships with other individuals, societies, objects, and comprehensive concepts—both theoretically and through practical, real-world case studies.
Deadline for Internal Applications at UFMG
Interested candidates with an institutional affiliation with UFMG (faculty or postdoctoral fellows) must submit their proposal to the UFMG Institute for Advanced Transdisciplinary Studies (IEAT) by September 17, 2025, sending the required documentation to info@ieat.ufmg.br. After evaluation, selected projects will receive a letter of institutional endorsement.
Official Submission to ICA/UBIAS
The letter of endorsement, along with the remaining documentation required in the call, must be submitted by the applicant by September 30, 2025, to mwk.bewerbungen@uni-erfurt.de

About the Intercontinental Academia
An initiative of the University-Based (University-Based Institutes for Advanced Study – Ubias), the Intercontinental Academia aims to foster the creation of a global network of future research leaders through the exchange of young scholars mentored by some of the world’s most eminent researchers.
The Institute for Advanced Transdisciplinary Studies (IEAT) of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and the Max-Weber-Kolleg of the University of Erfurt will host the 5th edition of the Intercontinental Academia. The ICA is one of the most successful initiatives developed by the members of the UBIAS network and promotes “scientific exchange” across generations, disciplines, cultures, and continents around a specific topic or theme.
