The deadline for submitting articles for the thematic dossier “Facing Latin American Crises: Contemporary Trends, Alternative Experiences, and Emerging Approaches” of the Revista da UFMG has been extended to August 31, 2025.

The dossier is inspired by the experiences and debates promoted over the six years of the CALAS-IEAT/UFMG Chair program, an initiative of the Institute for Advanced Transdisciplinary Studies at UFMG (IEAT/UFMG) in partnership with the Maria Sibylla Merian Center for Advanced Latin American Studies (CALAS) in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The CALAS-IEAT/UFMG program brought together specialists in Latin American studies interested in researching experiences of crises in the region and exploring possible paths to overcoming them. The topics covered included peace and violence, social inequality, environmental crises, the crisis of democracy in times of polarization, and other identity tensions in plural societies.

The call seeks to gather papers that address a variety of themes and issues involving how crises provoke, make visible, or are symptoms of profound social changes in the region, as well as how crisis-induced social change is perceived and reflected upon by various social actors in different fields, including politics, economics, territory, culture, and social movements in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Submissions and Criteria

Academic and research papers in all areas of knowledge may be submitted in Portuguese, Spanish, or English, based on empirical or theoretical research, or a systematic and integrative critical review of scientific and academic production in the field. For this call only, scientific articles will be accepted. Preference is given to papers with an inter- or transdisciplinary approach.

Participation is open to:

• PhD researchers;
• Postgraduate students, preferably in co-authorship;
• Undergraduate students, exclusively in co-authorship with researchers and advisors.

Submissions must follow the UFMG Journal guidelines, available on the UFMG Journal website through the Journal Portal.
