In the 1920s and 1940s, some scientists from the National Museum initiated a movement to demonstrate the importance of biology in the transformation of Brazil. To this end, they used books, exhibitions, radio programs, educational films, magazines, conferences, scientific societies, travel, and discussion networks among experts from various countries. They aimed to achieve broad scientific recognition while also seeking government support to play an active role in developing public policies, with an emphasis on education and nature conservation. This movement became known as Militant Biology.
