Despite the consensus that disinformation needs to be vigorously combated, adequately understanding what disinformation is and the mechanisms through which it operates still represents a clear challenge. The complexity of factors that converge in the production and mass dissemination of disinformation, as well as in its widespread adoption, requires an interdisciplinary approach and blurs the boundaries between traditional areas of academic research. In this sense, one of the group’s primary objectives is to mobilize tools for epistemological and cognitive discussion to understand the mechanisms of mass adoption and sharing of disinformation. The group also aims to centralize the efforts of researchers from other departments at UFMG and strengthen the local debate network with the aim of dialoguing with national and international research centers focused on the topic of disinformation.
