The lecture will address the difficulties of applying private appropriation to intangible assets, typical of material goods. It will discuss the contradictions of informational capitalism and demonstrate the intense possibilities for overcoming them through practices of sharing and collaboration, highlighting the importance of free software in this process.

Sérgio Amadeu da Silveira is a professor at the Casper Líbero School of Social Communication. He holds a PhD and a master’s degree in Political Science from USP, focusing on the study of the political and sociocultural implications of technologies. He was president of the National Institute of Information Technology and initiated the federal policy for the adoption of free software. He is the author of the books “Digital Exclusion: Poverty in the Information Age” and “Free Software: The Struggle for the Freedom of Knowledge,” both published by Editora Perseu Abramo. He recently published the article “Digital Corsairs, the State, and the Algorithm Monopoly in the Collection / Intellectual Property: Texts in Honor of Professor Maristela Basso.”
