Carl Steinitz is Professor of Architecture and Landscape Planning at Alexander and Victoria Wiley, Emeritus at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and Honorary Professor at the Center for Advanced Spatial Analysis, University College London. He has devoted much of his academic and professional career to improving methods for designing conservation and development in remarkable landscapes that are under pressure for change. He began his affiliation with the Laboratory for Computing and Spatial Analysis at Harvard in 1965. In 1984, the Council of Educators on Landscape Architecture (CELA) honored Prof. Steinitz with the Outstanding Educator Award for his “outstanding contribution to environmental design education.” In 1996, he received the annual “Outstanding Practice Award” from the International Society of Landscape Ecology. He has been honored as a top professor at Harvard University and received the Jot Carpenter Teaching Medal from the American Society of Landscape Architects in 2015. He has taught and conducted workshops at over 150 universities and has numerous honorary degrees.
