José Nelson Amaral is a professor at the University of Alberta, Canada, where he leads the Compiler Design and Optimization Laboratory. He holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Texas, Austin, a Master’s in Electronic and Computer Engineering from the Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA / SP), and a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUC-RS ). He is a senior member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and an ACM Distinguished Engineer. In 2012 he was selected “Professor of the Year” by the Center for Advanced Study at IBM in Toronto, Canada and received the Faculty of Science Excellence in Teaching Award in 2015 by the University of Alberta.
