Professor Sam Turner is currently the Head of the School of History, Classics and Archeology at the University of Newcastle/UK and Director of the McCord Center for Historic and Cultural Landscape. He is an experienced research team manager with a history of successful international projects. Some of the international projects in which Professor Turner is included: (1) Apalirou Environs Project, Naxos, Greece (2014-18), a collaborative fieldwork project with the Universities of Oslo, Edinburgh, Cyprus and the Ministry of Culture of Greece; (2) Cultural heritage through Time, a collaboration with partners in Italy, Spain and Poland (funded by JPI Cultural Heritage and Global Change, 2015-17); (3) Canvis i continuitats (with Lleida University, Spain; sponsorship: MINECO, 2013-15); (4) CoHERE (2016-18), European Commission Horizon 2020, a collaborative project on the meaning of cultural heritage for European entities (led by Professor Chris Whitehead of the University of Newcastle); and (5) CHeriScape – Cultural Heritage in Landscape (2014-2016), a collaborative project coordinated by the University of Newcastle with the aim of investigating and promoting landscape as cultural heritage, with seven partners from the UK, Netherlands, Norway, Belgium and Spain (funded through European JPI Cultural heritage and Global Change, with UK contribution from AHRC). Along with other members of the McCord Centre, Professor Turner has led historic and seascape field projects, most recently Historic Seascape Characterizations of the Irish Sea and North Sea (for English Heritage) and the Tyne and Wear HLC (for Newcastle City Council and English heritage).
