Joachim Michael is a professor at the Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies at the University of Bielefeld, Germany. He holds a doctorate at the Institute of Romance Studies at the University of Freiburg with the thesis “Television and cultural rupture: telenovelas in Latin America“ (“Die Zäsur der Television: Telenovelas in Lateinamerika”), awarded by the Hans- and Susanne-Schneider foundation in 2008 In recent years, he has also served as a visiting professor at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico, and as an assistant professor at the Institute of Romance Studies at the University of Hamburg, Germany.
