The issues associated with information are diverse and complex and have increasingly required both a clarification of concepts and a choice of appropriate theoretical-methodological approaches and references. In particular, the exploration of digital, which has provided new ways of processing, storing and communicating information and emerging applications, demands renewed approaches to organizing knowledge in the context of Information Science, as is the case of infocommunication.
Professor Armando Malheiro discussed these issues, highlighting the concept of infocommunication, which permeates certain situations that involve the individual-information relationship, also in the organizational context, as well as literacy and the use of digital information and communication technologies.
According to professors Claudio Paixão and Eliane Pawlowski, from ECI, proponents of the lecture, the concept of infocommunication is powerful for understanding information today. “It is not possible to investigate communication without exploring information theoretically and methodologically, and it is not possible to advance in the understanding of information in the current communication ecosystem mediated by information and communication technologies without a deeply interdisciplinary stance”, highlights Eliane.
