The Doctor. Vinton G. Cerf is Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist for Google, Inc. He is responsible for identifying new technologies and applications for Google. The Doctor. Cerf played a central role in the development of the Internet and Internet-related data packet switching technologies. He is one of the designers of the TCP/IP protocols and an architect of the Internet. In 2004, along with his colleague Robert E. Kahn, he received the ACM Turing Award for founding and developing the Internet. In addition to this highest accolade for a computer scientist, he has numerous honors and awards in engineering, science, and as an inventor. He began his career with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Stanford and a PhD in Computer Science from UCLA in 1972. Since then, he has received several honorary degrees, including Dr. Sc. Techn. H.C., by ETH, Zuerich, in 1998.
