IEAT resident, Professor Rochel Montero Lago holds a degree in Chemistry from the State University of Campinas (1991), a Master’s degree in Chemistry from the State University of Campinas (1991), a specialization course at Gifu University (Japan, 1991-1992) and a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry – University of Oxford (England, 1996). He did a postdoc at the Institute of Catalysis and Petrochemistry (Madrid-Spain, 1995-1996) and in 2005 a postdoc at HEC (Heutes Etudes Comercialles) Montreal, Canada, on the subject of Technological Entrepreneurship. He is currently Full Professor at UFMG and Researcher 1A CNPq, experience in the field of Chemistry, with emphasis on Catalysis, Environmental, Materials, Effluent Treatment and is currently dedicated to the theme of Technological Entrepreneurship. He is Guest Professor in the Innovation Management Specialization Course at the National University of San Luis- Argentina. He participated in the creation and is a teaching advisor for the Master’s and Doctorate Course in Technological Innovation at UFMG. He was Coordinator of the Business Incubator at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (2006-2007) winning the award for best incubation practice in Brazil by ANPROTEC 2007. He has nearly 27 patents (6 granted) and 5 know-hows, 3 licensed and 3 in licensing phase. One of the licensed technologies (conversion of glycerol from biodiesel) entered industrial/commercial scale in 2015. It carried out the scale-up of 8 technologies with pilot plants and market studies. He has received several national and international awards for entrepreneurship and innovation: 1st place in three international I2P Global competitions (Idea to Product in Texas and Sweden, 2010, 2011, 2014), 1st Place in the international competition MTSG – MIT Turkey, which involved university teams from around the world, a state competition EMBATE (Technologically Based Entrepreneurship) and MootCoorp Latino Americana. In 2013, he won the Petrobras Technology Award and, in 2015, the Outstanding Senior Researcher Award from the Brazilian Society of Chemistry Regional MG. He was a founding partner of the company Verti Ecotecnologias, which carries out R&D and insertion of environmental technologies in the market. In 2012, he published the book on entrepreneurship “As Cartas de Tsuji” (Ed. UFMG) which tells the story of a researcher who opens a technology company (sold out). This book was translated into Spanish and was published in Argentina in 2013. In 2014 he published the paradidactic book “The Essence of J.” (Editora Átomo Alinea) aimed at teaching chemistry to teenagers.


MULTIDISCIPLINARY/INTERDEPARTMENTAL PROGRAM TO DEVELOP LEADERS WITH ENTREPRENEURIAL CAPACITY IN AN ECONOMY OF KNOWLEDGE AND INNOVATION

The objective of this project is to structure a multidisciplinary/interdepartmental program to train leaders with entrepreneurial capacity in an economy of knowledge and innovation. This program will focus on transforming UFMG undergraduate and graduate students with good technical/academic training into entrepreneurial leaders.
