A Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais realizou entre os dias 30 de julho a 3 de agosto a primeira edição do Brazil‐China Summer School on Legal Studies (SSLS). Ao longo de uma semana, alunos brasileiros e chineses dos cursos de Graduação e Pós-Graduação em Direito tiveram a oportunidade inédita de estudarem conjuntamente e de maneira comparada os sistemas jurídicos de seus países enfrentando tópicos e desafios comuns que se apresentam aos juristas do século XXI. De direito constitucional a direitos humanos, passando pelo entendimento de desafios relativos a direito ambiental e climático e o percurso histórico dos sistemas jurídicos, a semana contou não apenas com aulas de grandes especialistas da UFMG e universidades chinesas parceiras, mas também com workshops em que os estudantes puderam comparar seus interesses e planejar colaborações comuns futuras.

A iniciativa histórica foi fruto da cooperação do Centro de Estudos para a Ásia Oriental da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) e da Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) e serviu para aprimorar os laços científicos entre os países, que são importantes parceiros diplomáticos, comerciais e científicos.

Durante as aulas, com professores das duas nacionalidades, os diversos temas permitiram aos alunos adquirirem conhecimentos-chave para melhor navegarem as particularidades de cada sistema. Além dos ensinamentos de direito nacional, o programa trouxe perspectivas do Direito Internacional, aumentando a compreensão dos papéis que desempenham os Estados em Organizações Internacionais, como a ONU. Houve também visita à Faculdade de Direito, onde os alunos puderam discutir seus interesses em pesquisa na área e adquirir informações a respeito dos programas de Pós-Graduação na UFMG. A Brazil-China SSLS se concluiu com sucesso, após uma visita cultural à cidade histórica de Ouro Preto, com a certeza de êxito na consolidação dessa grande parceria, que renderá bons frutos, multiplicando a compreensão do Direito brasileiro e do papel do Brasil em escala global.

Na ocasião, também foi assinado o Memorando de Entendimento para a criação do “HUST-UFMG Partnership Center: Common Destiny, Shared Values of China and Brazil” que visa aproximar a colaboração entre a UFMG e a China em estudos de direito comparado e internacional entre os dois países, reafirmando a política de internacionalização da UFMG em relação à Ásia.

Between  July 30 and August 3, the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais held the first edition of the Brazil-China Summer School on Legal Studies (SSLS). Over the course of a week, Brazilian and Chinese undergraduate and postgraduate law students had the unprecedented opportunity to jointly study their countries’ legal systems in a comparative way, tackling common topics and challenges facing jurists in the 21st century. From constitutional law to human rights, from understanding the challenges of environmental and climate law to the historical path of legal systems, the week included not only lectures by leading experts from UFMG and partner Chinese universities, but also workshops in which the students were able to compare their interests and plan future joint collaborations.

The historic initiative was the result of cooperation between the Center for East Asian Studies at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) and served to improve scientific ties between the countries, which are important diplomatic, commercial and scientific partners.

During the classes, with professors from both nationalities, the various topics allowed the students to acquire key knowledge to better navigate the particularities of each system. In addition to teaching about national law, the programme brought in perspectives from international law, increasing understanding of the roles that states play in international organizations such as the United Nations. There was also a visit to the Faculty of Law, where the students were able to discuss their research interests in the area and acquire information about the postgraduate programs at UFMG. The Brazil-China SSLS concluded successfully, after a cultural visit to the historic city of Ouro Preto, with the certainty of success in consolidating this great partnership, which will bear good fruit, multiplying the understanding of Brazilian law and Brazil’s role on a global scale.

In that occasion, it was also signed the Memorandum of Understanding for the creation of the “HUST-UFMG Partnership Center: Common Destiny, Shared Values of China and Brazil” which aims to bring closer collaboration between UFMG and China in comparative and international law studies between the two countries, reaffirming UFMG’s internationalization policy towards Asia.
