John van Breda is currently project manager at the Transdisciplinary Sustainability Analysis, Modeling and Assessment (TSAMA) HUB – a Center at the University of Stellenbosch, in the Western Cape province of South Africa.
John van Breda has a degree in Philosophy, Theology and Sociology. He completed his doctorate with the dissertation on “The production of transdisciplinary knowledge: the challenge of producing knowledge across borders in the planetary crisis”. In 2005, John van Breda organized a workshop on Transdisciplinarity at the University of Stellenbosch – with the assistance of two international thinkers in the field of Transdisciplinarity, Professor Basarab Nicolescu (quantum physicist at the University of Paris – France) and Professor Manfred Max-Neef (ecological economist and of development and former rector of the University of Valdivia – Chile). The workshop was attended by 30 leading academics from the entire spectrum of natural and social sciences from the main universities in South Africa. In 2005, he participated in the II World Congress on Transdisciplinarity in Brazil, in Vila Velha/Vitória, Espirito Santo, Brazil.
