The round table, which brings together experts on the subject, brings to UFMG the discussion on the future and present of the exploration of pre-salt oil deposits, seen as having the potential to revolutionize the Brazilian economy. Currently, more than one million barrels of oil are extracted in the pre-salt country, and the program, designed to boost the country’s scientific and technological development, is the subject of the most diverse and sometimes undeniable economic interests. The rules for exploration concessions, local content policy and the destination of resources obtained are urgent topics that are strangely little discussed in the press. Scientific and technological challenges present themselves as an unparalleled opportunity for Brazilian universities and research institutes.
