The  Institute of Advanced Transdisciplinary Studies  (IEAT) at UFMG conducted a technical visit to the Waseda Institute for Advanced Study (WIAS) in Tokyo, Japan, on October 26th. The visit aimed to explore potential collaborations between the two institutes in research projects of mutual interest and the possibility of staff exchange.

The IEAT delegation was welcomed by the WIAS director, Professor Ken-Ichi Akao, and the associate directors, Professors Chiharu Tokoro and Satomi Yamamoto, along with the administrative director, Masanobu Iwaki, and the executive secretary of WIAS, Akiko Suda.

During the meeting, the WIAS team provided an overview of the institute, its research areas, and ongoing programs. IEAT’s director, Professor Patricia Kauark Leite, and Professor Estevam Barbosa de Las Casas, former IEAT director and current member of the institute’s board, had the opportunity to introduce IEAT and its programs and discuss potential partnerships in research projects and researcher exchanges.

According to Professor Patricia Kauark the visit to WIAS was highly productive and promising. She explained that both institutes expressed interest in establishing future partnerships. The next steps include defining specific areas of collaboration, formalizing agreements, and implementing joint projects that will contribute to the advancement of transdisciplinary research and the promotion of cutting-edge knowledge.
